Mae Sariang is a small town and district (Amphoe) alongside the Yuam River in Mae Hong Son Province, northern Thailand. There are associations with Myanmar, including architecture, due to large population of migrant Shan who have, over many generations, relocated to the area. There are also many ex-Myanmar Muslims.
The Mae Sariang area is very mountainous and heavily forested, which has always made it a haven for refugees fleeing Burma. There are a number of NGO's operating in the area, and major UN refugee camps to the south. ยป read more...
